Learning about the Web

The internet is a large collection of computers (also called web servers) linked together. Each server has an IP address (and domain name - see p. 333 of our text). You (the webmaster) create web pages that are placed on your web server. Others access your web page by specifying your web address (URL also see p. 27 of text)) and requesting to view your web page. This structure is referred to as a client/server architecture.

To find information on the web, you can use web search engines (also see search services).
