Lab 5: Transformations: Object Space to World Space

Goals

• Use your own include files to create a scene.
• Practice using transformations to size, orient, and place objects in a scene.

Combining Objects into a Scene

• Last week, everyone created lathe objects and placed them into include files. These include files have been placed on the drive \\home\classes. To access this drive, right click on "My Computer" and select "Map Network Drive". Pick any unused drive letter (e.g. Z usually works). In the folder textfield, type \\home\classes and then click the finish button. A window for this drive should open up.

  Go to the folder folder gorr\cs142\lab5.

• Look through the objects that your classmates have made. Combine 3 or more of these objects into a recognizable scene. You may also include primitive objects (spheres, boxes, etc) as well as objects you have made in previous labs.

• Create several variations of your scene by changing things such as lighting or camera position.

Summary of what to turn in

No later than class time on Tuesday, Feb 20, please do the following:

• Place at images of at least 2 variations of your scene onto your website.
• Email to gorr:
  1. your povray file (*.pov) for at least one of the variations of your scene.
  2. any include files you used in this scene.
  3. a rendered image (*.png) of this povray file.
  Please remember to place "CS-142 Lab 5" in the subject line.

We will discuss the images during class on Feb 20.
