We’ll be doing some peer feedback on those shortly, so I hope they
are in a shareable state
Two weeks until presentations!
If the first half of next week, you’ll have some time to work on
your presentations
Professor Kitada-Smalley has also agreed to visit to assist or
consult about any last minute data vis questions you might have (or
anything else)
In the second half of next week, you’ll be giving practice
presentations to your peers.
Peer Feedback
More Eyeballs on your writing
Peer feedback is important
The obvious: it helps identify weaker points in the writing or areas
that need work
The hidden: it lets you get inspiration or context from what your
peers have written
In the first half of tonight, you and your partner will read and
give feedback on two other group’s rough drafts
Schedule
I strongly believe a structured approach is best for this, so we’ll
do the following twice:
20 minutes to read through the draft. If it is long enough that you
are not sure you’ll be able to get through the entire thing, split
sections between you and your partner.
10 minutes to discuss with your partner the strengths and weaknesses
of the draft. There is also a poll HERE
that you should fill out in this time documenting some of your thoughts.
This feedback will be shared with the groups at the end of the night
semi-anonymously.
15 minutes to sit down with the other group and swap comments
(they’ll have just read your paper). Keep things positive but also give
constructive advice as to what they can improve.
If there is a weird mistake or glaring logic hole that gets brought
up on presentation night, that is partly on your shoulders as a
reviewer! Nobody wants that, so do your best to help your peers ensure
they are ready.
