Compounds: stress is normally on the first part

In English, a compound noun can be spelled as one word, two words, or a hyphenated word:

Note: In English, it is especially important to put prominent stress on the first part of a adjective-noun compound: greenhouse (green house is something different) or blackboard (a black board is something different).
