Pringle Creek Community Visit: Preparation
http://www.pringlecreek.com
Read carefully and answer the questions below. We will visit Pringle Creek Community on Friday.
(It's supposed to start raining, so wear good shoes and bring a warm coat and a raincoat or umbrella.)
"Pringle Creek Community may be the most sustainable development under construction in the nation. More than 80% of existing trees have been preserved. The creek and adjoining wetlands are being protected and enhanced. Our unique "green street" system allows 90% of the rainwater to filtrate through the soil and recharge the aquifer. The narrower than usual streets use less material, provide more space for natural vegetation and slow auto traffic. New homes will be constructed with 100% FSC-certified* lumber. New and existing community buildings will be built or revitalized to LEED** Standards. Several buildings have been relocated or recycled and as a result over 200 tons of concrete and 100 tons of wood and steel have been recycled through environmental stewardship efforts. On site right now, heavy equipment and construction vehicles are running on bio-diesel. All these things reflect Pringle Creek Community's long-term commitment to sustainability. "
