Main Grammar Points:
Grammar I. Verbs in the ます forms and their particles: 3 New Types
1. Transitive verbs + を = I read a book: ほんを よみます
the place where ＋ で ＝ としょかんで ほんを よみます = I read the book AT the Library2. Motion Verbs with に or へ to mark Goal or Destination
I go to:
がっこうへ いきます Schoolとしょかん に いきます Library
ポートランドへ いきます Portland
クラスへ きます＝ I come to class
うちに かえります ＝ I go (back) home
3. Verb of Existence or to Have = あります= g marked with が
じゅぎょうが あります = I have a class
ほんが あります = I have a book
Grammar II = on Presenting objects or evetns using ~が あります
Place where they are holding/having an event can be marked by で
としょかん で えいがが あります They are having a film (showing) at the library
ウオルトン ホール (Walton Hall) で にごんごの じゅぎょうが あります. We have Japanese class in Walton Hall
Grammar III. Telling time using に for “at”
So we are fixing something IN or AT a Point in Time
４：００じに じゅぎょうが あります I have a class at...
８：４０に にほんごが あります I have Japanese at....
Also, in or on
もくようびに テストが あります = On Thursday....
きんようびに じゅぎょうが ありません = On Fridays....
Grammar IV. Adverbs of frequency
Always いつも あさごはんを たべます
Usually たいてい １１：３０に ねます
Often よく としょかんで ほんを よみます
Sometimes ときどき ビストロで コーヒーを のみます
Next two, “not very much/often” and “never” must be used with the verb in the NEGATIVE form:
あまり ひるごはんを たべません I don't...very often
ぜんぜん ポートランドへ いきません I never go to....
Grammar V. Past Form of Verbs = Convert to た form = V-ました and V-ません でした
きのう、 ８じに おきました Yesterday, I got up at 8 o'clock
せんしゅう の かようびに ひるごはんを たべませんでした I did not eat lunch (on) last Tuesday
クラスに いきました I went to class
