The で indicates the means by which you went (car, buys, bike, walking, etc.) ;
If you want to ask about that you say....
なん で いきましたか。= By what means did you go? How did you get there?
NOTE: We can't use で when we are going "By foot," because we use the verb "Walk" あるきます in its
-て Form = あるいて
We we will learn the -て Form of both Verbs and Adjectives in L. 6 but we saw -て Forms way back in L. 1 when we learned polite requests with -て 下さい like
みて下さい = please look
かいて下さい= please write
よんで下さい = please read etc.
いって下さい = please say it (p. 20)
Another Question: How Long does it take?
どのくらい かかりますか = How Long does it take?
かかりますか = it takes
いちじかん はん(一時間半)for 1.5 hours long/duration
なんじかん くらい かかりますか? = About how many hours (long) does it take?
When we say it takes so many じかん ぐらい かかります we are saying
"It takes about or around (approximately) so many hours...
When we are taking about Minutes (ふん) we don't add the かん to signify an interval of time at all
