Lab 6: Creating an Animation Loop with Music
IDS252: 3D Animation, Fall 2009

Goals

• Continue practice using keyframes, path animation, etc.
• Learn about inverse kinematics.

Directions

1. File Location: Again, please work on the enfuzion drive and not on your H drive. When you create a new project, place it in the folder \IDS252Fa09\Lab6\Workspace\#_your_name on the enfuzion drive. When you have completed the lab, please copy your final animation over to the folder \IDS252Fa09\Lab6\FinalAnimations Make sure that the name of the file you copy into this folder includes your initials or login name. You are to submit to WISE a single representative frame from your animation.

   Also, when you create your new project (through Maya) on enfuzion, you should include an "images" subfolder. Also include a "depth" folder. The files that Maya generates and places in this depth folder should be deleted after rendering your images.

2. Tutorials: In Maya, go to the tutorials on Animation (under Learning Resources;Tutorials;Getting Started with Maya;Animation) and do

   • Lesson 5: Inverse Kinematics. This was an optional tutorial from last week so you may already have done it. If not, do it this week. The file you need for this lesson is IK_MechArm.mb. It also can be downloaded from the folder \IDS252Fa09\Lab6\Resources on enfuzion.
   Note, the above lesson will not be collected.

3. 10 Second Animation Loop

   • You will find 10 second music loops in the folder \IDS252Fa08\Lab6\MusicLoops

   • Music Assignment: The sound files can be found on enfuzion in the folder: \IDS252Fa09\Lab6\SoundFiles. Your assignment is as follows (The music should be available by lab on Tuesday.):

   • Listen to the sound multiple times to develop a sense of the movement and feeling of the music. Based on this, create an animation that fits. As in the last lab, your animation should be a loop, i.e. it's end should transition seamlessly back into the beginning. Focus more on the movement of the characters and/or objects and less on lighting and texturing. Be prepared to discuss how you applied at least 2 of the first 10 animation principles listed here.

     Feel free to use Bloke if you want.

Evaluation

By 9am on Tuesday, October 13, place your final animation on \\home\enfuzion in the folder IDS252Fa09\Lab6\FinalAnimations. Be sure that the file name contains your name. Also submit to WISE a single representative frame from your animation.
