IDS 252: Topics for the Week of November 5, 2007

• Continue work on Lab 8: Final Project (See timeline)

• Monday Nov 5:

  • Be prepared to review progress made on animatics and modeling. Note: animatics should be completed by Wed.
  • Continue discussion of look&feel and reference material.
  • Reminder to review film and carmera techniques:
    • Yale Film Studies. Follow links to Cinematography - Framing, Scale, Movement
    • Using the Camera to Tell the Story
  • Reminder: In Maya, it is good to always create a camera rather than use the default camera. How do you deal with mutliple cameras? Make sure you keep a list of what camera is used and when. Each line in the list will include:
    • the shot
    • maya file
    • location of file
    • camera name
    • frame numbers to be rendered.
  • Reminder: Use the renderfarm. Note, Maya submission files may be reused.
  • Look at professional animated shorts.
  • Meet with your groups.

• Homework due on Wed, Nov 7:

  • Incorporate into the animatics and/or character modeling any comments from the class during review.
  • Each group member should complete the animatics for their assigned shots and let editor know where the final frames are located.
  • Complete animatics: The group editor should gather all the frames from each group member and generate a quicktime movie.

• In class on Wed, Nov 7:

  • Critique animatics.
  • Review prgress made on scene&character modeling. A

• Homework due on Mon, Nov 12

  • Based on feedback from class, decide on changes to the animatics/animation regarding the timing & camera.
  • Begin work on animation. Note: animation should be completed by the Wed before Thanksgiving.
  • Continue work on scene and prop modeling.
