IDS 252: Topics for the Week of February 28, 2011

• Most of this week's lecture and lab will be focused on activities related to developing stories and storyboards for the final animation project. These activites are described in more detail in Lab 7.

• Before diving into Lab 7, it is important for you to read in our text - Chapter 4: From Script to Final Storyboard and Chp 9: Animation, Film, and Special Effects.

• Lab:

  • Tuesday: Show preliminary work for Lab 6: Collaboration and Character .
  • Tuesday: Discuss and begin Lab 7: Story Development .
  • Thursday: Show final work for Lab 6: Collaboration and Character .

• Story Elements:

  • Anecdote: sequence of actions
  • Bait: constantly raise questions. These must eventually be answered
  • Moment of Reflection: What is the point of the story? Why should someone waste their time watching this story?

• (If time) Technical Topics on Materials/Shading, and Rendering

  • Maps
  • Bump Mapping
  • Anti-aliasing, Hypergraph
