Editing collections of papers tends not to be a creative undertaking—in reality, the task is more to be likened to a mind-numbing exercise of organization and secretarial work. Ideally one does it only because the editor believes the rest of the world, or a specialized subset of it, really needs to know about a subject that has not been studied adequately in other publications.
